Sessions and Compiling[edit]

Background Information[edit]

Recording sessions for Yandhi began in Chicago in July 2018, with West inviting many recording artists and prominent figures to his late mother's house.

For the Season 44 premiere of SNL, West was the musical guest, with Yandhi's release to coincide with the performance on September 29, 2018.[2] West arrived in Uganda with around 50 people on October 12, 2018 and continued work on the album in the Chope Safari Lodge in at the Murchison Falls National Park in a dome-shaped studio that had been set up.[3] He recorded music for 5 days.[4] This version of the album was intended to be released on November 23, 2018.[5]

In December 2018, Timbaland and jazz pianist Federico Vinver were recording in Miami, Florida when West joined their studio session to record more for Yandhi.[6] Ant Clemons was also invited to record in Miami after West had talked to Timbaland about him "nonstop."[7][8]

Allegedly, West had planned to announce the release date of the album at the Sunday Service Easter performance at Coachella on April 21, 2019. The announcement was meant to occur after Jesus Walks in the set list. However, during the performance of Ultralight Beam, West fell to his knees, and said he felt Jesus touching him. To some fans, this is when Yandhi had been scrapped.
